DENVER ? A man who worked as a society writer at the Rocky Mountain News died Thursday.

Thomas Hardy was at Denver Health Medical Center undergoing treatment for smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning from a fire at his home in the 300 block of Downing St.

Hardy was 68-years-old.

Firefighters pulled him out of the burning house in the Country Club neighborhood early Tuesday and paramedics rushed him to the hospital.

His two dogs died in the fire.

Hardy wrote about Denver?s cultural events and the movers and shakers in the society circles during the 1980s. He also did fund raising and consulting work for various nonprofit organizations.

In the mornings we teach for The Women?s Group, supplementing their seminars with classes that help improve their English, teach them how to use a computer, or give them a space to for a healthier lifestyle with fitness.In striving for the rights of women in places like Palestine, encouraging entrepreneurship among women is one focus. TYO tries to make an impact in this area through programs like WISE?(Women?s Incubation Services for Entrepreneurs). However, there are many women that are not budding entrepreneurs that can also benefit from empowerment programming, and that?s where The Women?s Group comes in.

In a recent article about women entrepreneurship in the West Bank, issues such as lack of mobility and lack of access to jobs were raised as obstacles that go beyond the usual cultural explanations. Such issues impact the women we see at The Women?s Group just as they impact women entrepreneurs and Palestinian job seekers in general. Many of the women that come to TYO in the mornings see it as a time to leave their neighborhood and do something to better themselves while having fun. Lack of mobility in the West Bank means that it?s not just hard for people to commute to a job or expand the market for their product, it is also hard to visit family in the next city over or spend a weekend away from home. TYO provides a safe space for these women to explore their identities as individuals.

If asked to describe what impact The Women?s Group has, we would describe the excitement we see in the women while they learn hip-hop dance in aerobics class or their increasing confidence in English conversation or their pride in the PowerPoint slideshow they made during IT. Having the space to be themselves and leave their problems at the door is at least as important as any of the hard skills they may be developing.

Palestinian civilian toll climbs in Gaza

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) ? Israeli aircraft struck crowded areas in the Gaza Strip on Monday, driving up the Palestinian death toll to 94 and devastating several homes belonging to one clan ? the fallout from a new tactic in Israel's 6-day-old offensive meant to quell Hamas rocket fire on Israel.

Escalating its bombing campaign, Israel on Sunday began attacking homes of activists in Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules Gaza. These attacks have led to a sharp spike in civilian casualties, killing 24 civilians in just under two days and doubling the number of civilians killed in the conflict, a Gaza health official said.

The rising toll was likely to intensify pressure on Israel to end the fighting. Hundreds of civilian casualties in an Israeli offensive in Gaza four years ago led to fierce international condemnation of Israel.

Hamas fighters, meanwhile, have fired hundreds of rockets into Israel in the current round of fighting, including 75 on Monday, among them one that hit an empty school. Twenty rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile battery, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. Rockets landed in open areas of Beersheva, Ashdod, Asheklon. Schools in southern Israel have been closed since the start of the offensive Wednesday.

The new airstrikes came as Egypt was trying to broker a cease-fire, with the help of Turkey and Qatar. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and a delegation of Arab foreign ministers were expected in Gaza on Tuesday. However, Israel and Hamas appeared far apart in their demands, and a quick end to the fighting seemed unlikely.

Overall, the offensive that began Wednesday killed 94 Palestinians, including 50 civilians, and wounded some 720 people, Gaza heath official Ashraf al-Kidra said. Among the wounded were 225 children, he said.

On the Israeli side, three civilians have died from Palestinian rocket fire and dozens have been wounded. An Israeli rocket-defense system has intercepted hundreds of rockets bound for populated areas.

In Monday's violence, a missile struck a three-story home in the Gaza City's Zeitoun area, flattening the building and badly damaging several nearby homes. Shell-shocked residents searching for belongings climbed over debris of twisted metal and cement blocks in the street.

The strike killed three adults and a 2-year-old boy, and wounded 42 people, al-Kidra said.

Residents said Israel first sent a warning strike at around 2 a.m. Monday, prompting many people in the area to flee their homes. A few minutes later, heavy bombardment followed.

Ahed Kitati, 38, had rushed out after the warning missile to try to hustle people to safety. But he was fatally struck by a falling cinderblock, leaving behind a pregnant wife, five young daughters and a son, the residents said.

Sitting in mourning with her mother and siblings just hours after her father's death, 11-year-old Aya Kitati clutched a black jacket, saying she was freezing, even though the weather was mild. "We were sleeping, and then we heard the sound of the bombs," she said, then broke down sobbing.

Ahed's brother, Jawad Kitati, said he plucked the lifeless body of a 2-year-old relative from the street and carried him to an ambulance. Blood stains smeared his jacket sleeve.

Another clan member, Haitham Abu Zour, 24, woke up to the sound of the warning strike and hid in a stairwell. He emerged to find his wife dead and his two infant children buried under the debris, but safe.

Clan elder Mohammed Azzam, 61, denied that anyone in his family had any connections to Hamas.

"The Jews are liars," he said. "No matter how much they pressure our people, we will not withdraw our support for Hamas."

Late Sunday, an Israeli missile killed a Hamas policeman and his 8-year-old son on the roof of their Gaza City home. The father was on the roof to repair a leaking water tank, his relatives said.

In another area of Gaza City, the patriarch of the Daloo family, Jamal, sat in mourning for 11 members of his family killed in a missile strike on his home Sunday. Among the dead were his wife, his son, daughter-in-law, his sister and four grandchildren. He embraced relatives and neighbors paying their condolences, his face swollen from crying.

The mourners sat in plastic chairs just meters away from bulldozers clearing the ruins of Daloo's home. His 16-year-old daughter Yara was still missing and believed under the rubble, family members said.

Daloo, who is left with two sons, tried to take comfort in the belief that the loss of his family was God's will and that the dead are now in paradise. He vehemently disputed Israel's initial claim that a senior operative of Islamic Jihad, a smaller sister group of Hamas, was hiding in his house. He said his son Mohammed, one of those killed, was a policeman in the Gaza police, but not an activist.

"The international public opinion witnessed the facts," he said of the tragedy that befell him. "This does not require my words."

Also Monday, Israel bombarded the remains of the former national security compound in Gaza City. Flying shrapnel killed one child and wounded others living nearby, al-Kidra said. Five farmers were killed in two separate strikes, al-Kidra said, including three who he said had been mistakenly identified earlier by Hamas security officials as Islamic Jihad fighters.

Other strikes killed two fighters on a motorcycle in southern Gaza and two passengers in a taxi that had put a press sign in the windshield, al-Kidra said.

Israel launched the current offensive after months of intensifying rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, which has continued despite the strikes.

In the night from Sunday to Monday, aircraft targeted about 80 militant sites, including underground rocket-launching sites, smuggling tunnels and training bases, as well as Palestinian command posts and weapons storage facilities located in buildings owned by militant commanders, the Israeli military said in a release. Aircraft and gunboats joined forces to attack Hamas police headquarters, and Palestinian rocket squads were struck as they prepared to fire, the release said.

In all, 1,350 targets in the Gaza Strip have been struck since the Israeli operation began. However, military activity over the past two nights has dropped off as targets change and international efforts to wrest a cease-fire plod ahead.

Israel and Hamas have put forth widely divergent conditions for a truce. But failure to end the fighting threatens to touch off an Israeli ground invasion, for which thousands of soldiers, backed by tanks and armored vehicles, have already been mobilized and dispatched to Gaza's border.

President Barack Obama said he was in touch with players across the region in hopes of halting the fighting. While defending Israel's right to defend itself against the rocket fire, he also warned of the risks the Jewish state would take if it were to expand its air assault into a ground war.

"If we see a further escalation of the situation in Gaza, the likelihood of us getting back on any kind of peace track that leads to a two-state solution is going to be pushed off way into the future," Obama said.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ? This year?s Marian Anderson Award Gala honoring James Earl Jones will be held tonight in Philadelphia. The award honors artists whose leadership benefits humanity. Community investment programs and grants are also part of the program.

In the early 1900?s singer Marian Anderson of Philadelphia had financial challenges to foster her music education, a situation that is very much a reality today for many youth, like 18-year-old opera and musical theater singer Christian Eason of Germantown. He is one of 17 high school recipients of the Marian Anderson Young Artist Study-Grant.

Christian will use the $1,500 for things like music lessons.

?I plan on using the talent that I have to really move forward and be successful and use that success to give back to the community, because if it wasn?t for the community giving back to me I would be where I am today.?

Since its inception in 1998, the Award program has provided more than $500,000 in free public programs, residencies, commissions and grants to young artists.

The guitar is an icon of 20th century music and continues to be the instrument of choice for many popular artists. Though its design has evolved from earlier instruments, and many of its advantages are mirrored by the piano, this one has many unique features that influence the way its tune is created and heard.
This is a plucked stringed musical instrument that probably originated in Spain early in the 16th century, deriving from the 'guitarra latina', a late-medieval instrument with a waisted body and four strings. The early instrument was narrower and deeper than the modern one, with a less pronounced waist. The modern one has two main parts: the body, which creates the tone and resonance giving the voice; and the neck and fretboard, which provide the means to shorten string length to create different notes and scales.
The types includes the classical, flamenco, bass among others. The most popular today seem to be electric and acoustic guitars that come in various tuning configurations, although often, the selected type will depend on the type of music that will be played. Simple acoustics are good for country music, whereas exotic electric ones may be more suited to heavy metal.
The guitar became popular in jazz and blues, and later rock 'n' roll, because of the possibilities for embellishments such as slides, harmonics and dynamic techniques. In jazz ensembles it is part of the rhythm section and is occasionally played as a solo instrument. In popular music it is usually amplified, and ensembles frequently include more than one instrument.

How No-Fault insurance reform would hurt car accident victim Sam ...

There are two months left in the current legislative session. This means Michigan?s No-Fault insurance ?reform? bills are still looming.

Currently, Michigan requires drivers to carry No-Fault auto insurance, which provides lifetime (reasonably necessary) medical care for the most catastrophically injured car accident victims, and many other life-saving benefits for very serious auto-related injuries such as attendant care nursing services.

But these reform bills would cap medical benefits and attendant care to a dangerously low amount. When injury victims are cut off, they will be pushed onto Medicaid.? And who pays for these medical expenses?? The burden would fall onto Michigan taxpayers ? instead of the auto insurance companies that are required by law to protect them, and who already enjoy some of the highest profitability margins in the entire country here in Michigan.

That?s called having your cake and eating it too.

I?ve written about Erica Nader Coulston, a woman who sustained a paralyzing spinal cord injury in a car accident. Erica is not only a survivor, she is an advocate for No-Fault insurance in Michigan and she?s been rallying hard to protect this system. She also runs a spinal cord injury rehab center in Southfield called Walk the Line. Erica wrote a compelling editorial in the Detroit Free Press. She put a face on the devastation that would occur for Michigan auto accident victims if these vital No-Fault benefits are taken away under the ?reform? measures. Erica posed the question, ?What would you want for your daughter, mother, sister or wife??

In other words, if your daughter, mother, sister or wife were paralyzed in a car accident, wouldn?t you want their medical bills to be covered under Michigan No-Fault, and for them to have the nursing care that they require to survive?

Today I?d like to share another story about an auto accident victim that would be devastated from No-Fault reform. His name is Sam Howell.

Sam was in a car crash in February 2005 that put him in a coma for two months. He had a 3% chance of survival. Sam cannot walk on his own. He has a traumatic brain injury that affects how he communicates with people.

He needs 24-hour, around-the-clock nursing care. Sam continues to receive treatment from cognitive, physical, occupational and recreational therapists.

This is all possible because of Michigan?s No-Fault auto insurance system. Without it, Sam?s family would have gone bankrupt within months and Sam wouldn?t have had access to his life saving, healing care.

MLive outlined Sam?s story, ?Michigan man, who beat the odds after car crash, fights against no-fault insurance reform.?

In the article, MLive points out that opponents of the No-Fault system ?point to cases of people inappropriately cashing in on insurance checks for providing in-home care.?

This is just ludicrous. Sam?s parents, who both had to quit their jobs to provide this care, would agree. They say they haven?t been ?enriched? by insurance payments for attendant care to take care of their son and would do anything to avoid their current situation.

Please think of Sam and Erica when you hear the proponents of No-Fault ?reform? (ie. the insurance company propaganda machine) say that it?s needed to cut down on the costs of insurance in this state. In reality, reform would only shift the costs to the taxpayers and away from the auto insurance companies who continue to rake in record-breaking profits.

If the No-Fault reform legislation does not pass during the lame duck session, lawmakers would have to start over again next year.

Men in RV Treated for Carbon Monoxide - Massapequa, NY Patch

An upstate home repair crew parked at the Sunrise Mall had to be hospitalized early Saturday after the RV they were sleeping in filled with carbon monoxide, Nassau County Police said.?

Nassau County Police Ambulance along with Massapequa Fire Department crews responded at 2:55 a.m. after three men, aged 20, 21, and 22, began to feel ill. Their injuries are not considered life threatening.?

Police said the generator aboard their RV was apparently not ventilated properly, causing dangerous fumes to enter the sleeping area.

According to police, the victims are employees of CNY Restoration and Development, a Syracuse-based disaster recovery services business.

A Patch call to the business went unanswered.

Huntsville firefighters raise $20K for breast cancer

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- A huge donation was made in the fight against breast cancer.

Huntsville Fire and Rescue and the Huntsville Firefighters Association raised $20,000 from selling T-shirts during the month of October.

They presented the check to WAFF 48 News anchor Liz Hurley Thursday at the city council meeting.

The funds will go towards the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund.

It will be used to enhance and purchase technology for the Huntsville Hospital Breast Center.

Tropical Indo-Pacific climate shifts to a more El Nino-like state

The Walker circulation determines much of the tropical Indo-Pacific climate and has a global impact as seen in the floods and droughts spawned by the El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation. Meteorological observations over the last 60 years show this atmospheric circulation has slowed: the trade winds have weakened and rainfall has shifted eastward toward the central Pacific.

The immediate cause of this slowdown has puzzled climate scientists. They could not reproduce it in their atmospheric models, questioning the ability of climate models to simulate gradual climate change.

A breakthrough is now reported in a study spearheaded by Hiroki Tokinaga, associate researcher at the International Pacific Research Center, University of Hawaii at Manoa, and published in the November 15, 2012, issue of Nature.

At the root of the models' failure, Tokinaga suspected, was the lack of precise sea surface temperature data used to drive the models. Slight differences in this temperature across the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean can greatly affect wind and rainfall.

Over the 60-year period the methods used to measure ocean temperature have evolved enormously. Until satellites came along in the 1980s, such measures were taken by ships. This makes it difficult to have one continuous, unbiased record that goes back for so long.

Tokinaga, who is an expert in understanding old, archived data sets and at correcting their biases, found two measures that have been taken by ships over the whole period: the bucket technique, in which the temperature is taken of sea water scooped up in a bucket lowered from a ship, and night time marine air temperature.

"Removing observational biases from the measurements was still challenging, but we saw that these quite different ways of measuring sea surface temperature turned out to agree very well over the 60-year span from 1950 ? 2009, and were supported by subsurface ocean temperature observations," explains Tokinaga. "To our surprise both measures showed that the surface temperature across the Indo-Pacific did not rise evenly with global warming, but that the east-west temperature contrast has actually decreased by 0.3-0.4?C, similar to what happens during an El Ni?o."

Using this unbiased, reconstructed surface temperature data set in four widely used atmospheric models, the scientists were able to reproduce quite closely the observed patterns of climate change seen over the 60-year period in the tropical Indo-Pacific and the slowdown of the Walker circulation.

"Our experiments show that the main driver of the change in the Walker circulation is the gradual change that has taken place in the surface temperature pattern toward a more El Ni?o-like state. We don't have enough data yet to say to what degree the slowdown over the last 60 years is due to a rise in man-made greenhouse gases or to natural cycles in the climate," explains Tokinaga.

"Short-term fluctuations in the strength of the Walker circulation happen every few years: during La Ni?a the circulation strengthens, during El Ni?o it weakens," says co-author Shang-Ping Xie, meteorology professor at the International Pacific Research Center. "The Walker circulation affects tropical convection, and the global impacts of a temporary slowdown during an El Ni?o are well known, resulting in extreme floods or droughts in North America and other regions of the world. How the gradual slowdown observed in this study impacts global climate still needs to be investigated."

Merck KGaA lifts outlook on drugs, screen chemicals

DARMSTADT, Germany (Reuters) - Merck KGaA lifted its 2012 outlook on Thursday and beat expectations for third-quarter results as it capitalized on its strong position in the market for chemicals for flat screens.

Family-controlled Merck, which traces its roots to a 17th century pharmacy, now expects adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) this year of 2.90-2.95 billion euros ($3.7-$3.75 billion).

That is the upper half of its previous target range and compares with 2.9 billion euros expected on average by analysts.

Merck also benefited from continue price increases in the U.S. for multiple sclerosis drugs, where the company sells its established Rebif injection, and from an ongoing cost cutting program.

Third-quarter adjusted EBITDA rose 15.6 percent to 754 million euros, above a forecast for 740 million in a Reuters poll. Revenues also exceeded expectations.

Merck's dominant position in the market for liquid crystals for flat-panel displays allows it to hold its own even as economic uncertainty puts consumers off big-ticket purchases such as pricey flat-screen TVs. Soaring tablet computer sales also help Merck.

The company is slashing costs and jobs after a number of setbacks in drugs development left it without any significant pharmaceuticals in its late-stage development pipeline.

Ultrabulk Ditches Chinese Yard for Japan-Built Eco-Ship

Danish dry bulk operator Ultrabulk said Wednesday that continuous delays have forced the company to cancel its order for two large Panamax bulkers from China?s Zhoushan Jinhaiwan Shipyard and instead order a new ECO-designed bulker from Japan.

In a statement, the company said that the charter contracts for the two Kamsarmax?s, i.e. large Panamax?s, have been cancelled after the yard failed to finish construction of the vessels within the agreed time frame. The contracts were originally entered into in 2010 for long term charter of both vessels for up to 12 years.

Ultrabulk also announced that it has entered into an agreement to secure a new ECO-designed Supramax bulker to be built in Japan. Upon delivery, the 61,000 DWT vessel will be placed on long term time charter for a?period of up to 12 years to Ultrabulk.?Delivery is set for 2015 and the deal includes the option to buy the vessel during the charter period.

The contract is the first ECO-designed Supramax newbuilding charter contract under the Ultrabulk umbrella, after the company concluded two contracts within the ECO-designed Handysize segment earlier this year.

?The market is still expected to create challenging conditions for the dry-bulk market within the foreseeable future, but with a solid cargo book already in place, it?s a natural move for us to conclude our first new ECO-designed Supramax bulker. By adding this latest ECO-design to our long term fleet, we show our continued support not only to our long term partners in Japan, but also to our long term global cargo partner, sending a strong signal that Ultrabulk is firmly committed to continued growth in the years to come,? says Henrik Sleimann Petersen, Head of Shipholding.

The new ECO-designed Supramax bulk carrier will be equipped with electronic main engines and systems expected to increase fuel efficiency by approximately 10 % and also reduce the CO2 emissions.

Ultrabulk says that the new contract entered into is a natural step in our on-going fleet renewal program and will ensure that the company continues to operate a modern fleet of vessels with the latest ECO-designs.

Ultrabulk operates a fleet of commercially controlled vessels, varying between 90 and 125 vessels, numbers depending on fluctuating and seasonal contractual commitments. Ultrabulk also has?23 newbuildings, 14 of which are expected to be delivered by the end of 2014.

Fiscal cliff: Dean Dorton Allen Ford busy advising clients

Gwen Tilton, office managing director for the Louisville office, said her firm has been busy advising clients about the fiscal cliff.

The threat of paying more taxes next year because of the looming ?fiscal cliff? of spending cuts and tax increases set to take effect in January is keeping busy the accountants in the Louisville office of Dean Dorton Allen Ford PLLC.

?We have clients right and left trying to close transactions between now and Dec. 31, because they believe, and the law says, that they will pay more taxes (in 2013),? said Gwen Tilton, office managing director for the Louisville office.

If Congress does nothing, the tax increases are expected to hit nearly everyone. Payroll tax increases will hit wage earners and estate tax and dividends tax rate increases will hit the wealthy.

One of the more dramatic increases is scheduled to happen to investment income, Tilton said. For now, qualified dividends are taxed at a top rate of 15 percent. But after that special rate expires in December, dividend income will be taxed as ordinary income.

For those in the highest tax bracket, that will mean paying a tax rate on dividends of 39.6 percent next year, Tilton said. The top rate is now 35 percent, but it?s scheduled to increase as well.

As part of the Affordable Care Act, an additional 3.8 percent tax on investment income is scheduled to kick in next year. The top rate on long-term capital gains is also scheduled to rise from 15 percent to 20 percent.

Because of these potential increases in taxes on investment income, Tilton said, it?s a good idea to take any dividend income this year and sell any property subject to capital gains tax before January.

Another dramatic change is expected in the estate tax and gift tax, whose top rates are scheduled to rise from 35 percent to 55 percent. The lifetime exemption from the combined taxes is scheduled to drop from $5 million to $1 million.

New Jersey officials mum on amount of Sandy damages

(Reuters) - New Jersey is still not releasing estimates of how much economic damage Superstorm Sandy caused as it wants to take its time to get the most accurate numbers possible, the state's top budget official said on Tuesday.

The estimates - particularly about how much tax revenue the state could lose in the near future because of the storm - are likely to affect the state budget and Republican Governor Chris Christie's hopes for a tax cut.

"We're being extraordinarily careful not to overstate or misrepresent the numbers," New Jersey Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff said on Tuesday at an economic forum in Trenton, the state capital.

In contrast, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Monday that he plans to ask the federal government for $30 billion in disaster aid to help with the recovery for New York City, Long Island and other devastated areas of the state.

And New York City Comptroller John Liu said within days of the storm that the city was permanently losing $200 million a day in economic activity, with that amount likely to top out at about $1 billion.

Sidamon-Eristoff said his office expects to provide information about New Jersey's economic costs of the storm to Christie sometime this week. He said that Cuomo "made a big splash with his numbers."

"The prize doesn't go to the state that is the earliest out with a big number," he said later. "Ultimately, what matters is that when we do publish a number or series of numbers, that it reflect the very best analysis that we have. I'll take being careful over being quick any day of the week."

The storm could cost the region as much as $50 billion in damages and lost economic activity altogether, according to some estimates. It knocked out power, transportation and gas distribution systems, brining some business to a halt temporarily and causing housing emergencies for flood victims.

Areas hit hard by the storm are losing sales taxes and other revenues. Affected cities, towns and states also have to repair housing, businesses and critical infrastructure systems like transportation.

"We should snap back from those and, as many will soon notice, the rebuilding activity will become evident," Charles Steindel, the chief economist in the New Jersey Treasury, said at Tuesday's forum.

The federal government and insurers are also expected to pay for many recovery costs.

New Jersey has the seventh-largest state economy in the United States and the third-highest median household income, at $67,458, according to Joseph Seneca, a Rutgers University economist.

Yet New Jersey's economy has been struggling to regain ground since the recession. Its unemployment rate was 9.8 percent in September, the fourth highest in the nation.

The state has been recovering private-sector jobs. But even if it adds 25,000 jobs a year, it would take until almost 2020 to get back to its pre-recession peak of 163,300 in January 2008, Seneca said.

In February, the governor proposed a 10 percent across-the-board income-tax cut. The Democrat-led Legislature cut a deal with Christie for a plan to provide property-tax credits on residents' income tax returns for those earning less than $400,000 a year.

But state lawmakers, concerned about lagging revenues, didn't include the proposed cuts in the $31.7 billion budget for fiscal year 2013, which the governor signed in July.

For months since then, Christie has continued advocating a tax cut - until Monday, when he said he would wait to see what Sandy's impact on revenue was before deciding whether to pursue the proposal further. He said he still supports the idea, according to several media outlets.

The popular photography app Camera+ by tap tap tap has been updated with several new features, the most interesting one being the addition of a "flash" to the front-facing camera. Obviously, this flash isn't a real flash since that is a hardware piece, but Camera+ now flashes a bright white background onto the screen when taking a photo to simulate using a flash. This is similar to the approach that Apple takes with Photo Booth on the Mac.

Another notable feature added to Camera+ is a horizon level that ensures you don't take a crooked photo. Instead of a complicated looking meter that some apps use, tap tap tap took a new approach by replacing one of the segments of the gridlines with a bolder tilting segment. When the segment lines up with your gridlines, then you know your photo is straight.

Camera+ has also added a Live Exposure feature that should draw the attention of iPhoneographers who want more control. Now you can see how the changes to exposure parameters like ISO and shutter speed change in real-time. This will be a great time-saver for many.

You may not have ever realized it, but when using the camera on the iPhone 5, the viewfinder actually crops a little bit of what your camera actually sees and what you'll get. Camera+ has fixed this problem and set up the interface in a way that ensures there is absolutely no viewfinder cropping. What you see is what you shoot.
